Walking to end Women’s Cancers

Best therapy ever was walking with 7 friends in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer - amazing where you find your strength
Best therapy ever was walking with 7 friends in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer – amazing where you find your strength

Eight years ago today I walked 60 kilometres over 2 days in the fight to end breast cancer.  With my fellow ‘Plaid Panthers’ — Sisters Heather and Lorraine, and pals Lynn, Chris, Joanne, Kelly, and Tammy we raised over $60,000 and I got to be part of one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I was right in the middle of chemo treatments at the time and wasn’t sure if I’d make it, but the spirits of all those walking and of those we were walking for, buoyed me right to the end. I will never forget the smiles on our faces as we crossed that finish line to the claps and cheers of all those amazing volunteers. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

Looking back I realized that Walk was the best therapy I received and a critical step on my journey to get well. I am forever grateful to those 7 fantastic women and all the friends who supported us along the way. I love you guys.

I’m proud to be a Plaid Panther and to have walked with you. We all walked for so many people in our lives and in the lives of others. And of course, I still have my Plaid hat. xx

Wow I can’t believe it has been 6 years. I have wonderful memories of that incredible weekend I shared with you and all the girls. I also have a beautiful “purple heart” that I wear close to my heart.
