Living the Dream

Yomimiyo?!

There comes a time in every bloggers life when we actually have to pick a name for our blog. Some choose it before even posting their first word, and many, like me, spend countless hours thinking about a name after the fact. One that is somewhat relevant, easy to remember, not hoaky, and available as a .com. Do you know how hard that exercise actually is? I have been naming and branding companies for years and I tell you, it sucks doing it for yourself. But inspiration comes from the strangest places and mine happened around a dinner party.

My husband was monopolizing the conversation (just a tiny bit, sweetie) about his recent sculptural piece that has been accepted to an art exhibition in France. He then apologized with “enough about me, let’s talk about me”, to which I replied, “Yo mi mi yo!” It literally means “I me me I” in espanol and I had my Spanish speaking friends in tears.

Fast forward a few days when I am searching in vain for a blog name I can ‘own’, and it hits me. Bloggers are relatively self indulgent in that we write for ourselves, we write what we want, we aren’t edited by anyone, the content is almost always from our point of view…in other words…Yo mi mi yo!

And so my blog name was born. I did a happy dance around my ‘office’ when I did a search and got “yomimiyo.com IS AVAILABLE”. I hope you like it because that’s one drawing board I’m not going back to.

In October 2012, I drove 6,800 kms with my artist husband, Ric Kokotovich (www.rickokotovich.com), and my dog Iggy, to spend 6 months in our adopted city of Merida. Leaving the fast paced world of Calgary behind, I packed my books, art and entrepreneurial spirit, and set off to explore what lay beyond the borders that had become my life. In October 2013 we hit the road south again, hoping to find out what ‘living the dream’ really means. This is my adventure.

  1. I love the name, it is perfect, wish I had thought of it! and it is odd enough or perhaps unusual is better?? that people will want to come in, and then of course stay for the posts.
    me likey!
you are correct, we do write for ourselves don’t we!

    • Thanks for the feedback Debi. Most of the stumble will be in the pronunciation but as we have adopted ‘Yo’ in English as a ‘What’s up, Hey, How ya Doin’ colloquialism, I figured it wasn’t too much of a stretch! Hope to see in in the barrio sometime soon. 🙂

  2. Enough about me, ‘et’s talk about me’ so funny and a great name. I would change mine often just for fun though a blog no no I’m sure!

I love it. After saying it out loud a few times, it rolls off the tongue just right. Your blog is read for several reasons, a few of which are your witty humor, your wisdom, your perspective on things and your inspiration. So if I were to name your blog, it would be something corny like que usted y usted – not nearly as fun or engaging. Keep on blogging. Always look forward to the next one.

    • Okay, it’s back to the Spanish books – I had to look up all your words, ya show off lol. Thanks for your encouragement and support…it keeps me writing!
